The “Play in the air” courses

We are offering a new training cycle that follows on from the classic stages (beginner, intermediate, progression); this cycle is called “Wind Play”.

These courses are designed for pilots who are autonomous in calm conditions, with an initial pilot’s certificate level. This cycle includes two stages:

  • Wind Play “First Thermals”: For pilots autonomous in takeoff and landing but with little or no experience in thermal/dynamic flying and wishing to learn how to extend their flights in order to tackle “stronger” conditions safely.

  • Wind Play “Thermal Progression”: For pilots who own their equipment and are already capable of staying airborne but wish to deepen their technique/knowledge to build a solid foundation for cross-country practice and passing the pilot’s license.

The main difference from the green cycle courses (beginner, intermediate, progression) are the practice times and intensity. These stages take place over entire days, and flight times are calculated to best optimize thermal or dynamic flying slots. Evening flights are included (they are extra in the progression stage).

  • Groundwork will focus on managing the wing in strong wind.

  • Flight exercises will focus on learning/progressing in active piloting and incident management as well as improving performance in thermal/dynamic conditions.

  • Many subjects will be covered in theory, including aerological/meteorological analysis. The different items of the blue cycle of the pilot’s passport will be discussed as well as preparation/taking the pilot’s license.
